Course Overview

Our two-day instructor-led online CIPM training course is designed to build practical skills in privacy program management while supporting participants preparing for the IAPP’s globally recognised Certified Information Privacy Manager (CIPM) certification. The CIPM is the world’s first and only certification in privacy programme management, demonstrating the ability to make a privacy programme work in practice and to manage day-to-day data protection operations within an organisation.

The certification was developed by the International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP), the world’s largest global information privacy community and resource, and is accredited under ISO 17024:2012. This course aligns to the IAPP framework and focuses on the practical application of privacy program management.

Delivered online over two full days, the course provides hands-on insight into implementing privacy program frameworks, managing the operational lifecycle of a privacy program and building a high performing privacy function. Participants will develop the skills to manage privacy through effective processes and technology, applicable across jurisdictions and industries, while also receiving structured guidance for those intending to sit the CIPM exam.

Who Should Attend

  • Risk, compliance and legal practitioners
  • Security managers

This course is ideal for those looking to formalise their existing knowledge through a globally recognised IAPP certification and to enhance their professional opportunities within the information economy.

Course Modules

The course is broken into ten modules:

Introduces the role of the privacy program manager, including responsibilities, accountability and key drivers such as compliance, trust and business value. It also outlines the privacy operational life cycle and how a structured program protects personal information.

Focuses on establishing and managing a privacy governance framework, including roles, responsibilities, stakeholder engagement and organisational structures. It emphasises developing policies, defining program activities and aligning privacy with business objectives.

Examines the regulatory environment and key privacy frameworks, helping organisations understand and align with applicable laws across jurisdictions. It highlights the importance of integrating legal requirements into the privacy program.

Covers methods for assessing privacy risks and compliance, including privacy assessments, risk assessments and audits. These processes help identify gaps, evaluate practices and drive improvements in the privacy program.

Explores how to protect personal information through privacy by design, embedding privacy into systems, processes and the data life cycle. It emphasises proactive risk prevention and integrating privacy across organisational operations.

Focuses on developing and implementing privacy policies that guide internal practices and ensure compliance. It distinguishes policies from notices and highlights their role in defining responsibilities, safeguards and procedures.

Examines how to measure and evaluate the effectiveness of a privacy program through metrics, monitoring and audits. It supports continuous improvement by identifying trends, risks and areas for enhancement.

Highlights the importance of building a privacy-aware culture through training and awareness programs. It shows how education reduces risk, improves decision-making and embeds privacy into everyday business activities.

Covers how organisations operationalise and respond to data subject rights, including transparency, consent and access. It focuses on communicating clearly with individuals and ensuring compliance with rights-related obligations.

Provides guidance on preparing for and managing data breaches, including response planning, communication and regulatory notifications. It aims to reduce risk and ensure timely, effective incident handling.
