Privacy 108’s quarterly jobs report for July-September 2025 is now live.
The theme for the quarter is probably ‘Steady as she goes’, with no major changes – other than a creep up in the average advertised salary, a rise in positions called ‘Privacy Specialists’ (rather than Privacy Officer or Manager) and a high number of re-advertised roles over the quarter.
The following summary presents key insights from the analysis of Privacy Jobs advertised in
Australia between July and September 2025:
Table of Contents
Key Observations
- Privacy job opportunities remained stable in Q3, averaging 35 roles per month. August recorded 44 advertised positions.
- A notable number of roles were re-advertised over the period, indicating potential ongoing challenges in recruiting candidates with appropriate skill sets and senior-level experience. These roles primarily required over five years’ experience, especially within corporate or technology sectors such as Atlassian, Canva, and Bytedance.
- The government sector represented the largest employer, accounting for 30% of all advertised privacy roles during the quarter, showing consistency with the previous quarter. Demand for professional services roles remained strong, ranking second. Corporate roles have moved into the top three industries seeking privacy professionals, replacing banking and finance.
- Most job openings (80%) were located in capital cities, with an additional 10% open to applicants from any of the eastern capitals. Regional and fully remote roles were limited, though some positions were advertised in Darwin, Perth, and Adelaide during the quarter. There was an increase in flexible working arrangements, with 78% of job advertisements referencing hybrid, work-from-home, or flexible options.
- Demand for privacy leaders and managers was consistent, with one-third of roles directed at senior candidates, mainly outside of government. There was also a noted increase in positions titled ‘Privacy Specialist,’ although their job descriptions matched those of Privacy Officer or Manager.
- The average advertised salary rose to $145,000 from $137,000 previously, while contract rates remained above $800 per day. The highest salary offered ranged between $220,000 and $240,000 plus bonus for a Senior Data Privacy Officer via a recruitment agency.
- Experience requirements remained considerable: 37% of roles required at least three years’ experience, and 3% specified more than eight years. Legal positions most frequently stipulated experience, whereas other roles prioritized relevant skills or certifications.
